Ryan Martin is a qualified carpenter with 10+ years’ experience across commercial, residential, heritage and architectural construction. He got into carpentry for the problem-solving, the satisfaction of building something with his hands, and the chance to help people — and he aims for a high-quality finish, honest workmanship and a fair price on every job, while keeping material wastage and environmental impact to a minimum.
Years spent on architectural builds shaped an eye for clean lines, complementary materials and the kind of detail that separates a good deck from a great one — the same standard he brings to every project in Hobart, from flat suburban blocks to steep, elevated sites.
Every deck built under the Deck Builders Hobart name is built by Ryan himself. There’s no rotating crew of subcontractors and no handing the job to whoever’s free that week — the person who quotes the job is the person who builds it.
Where a project genuinely needs a building permit or a licensed builder’s sign-off — which some taller, elevated builds do — Ryan is upfront about that from the site visit, and works with licensed builders to get it handled properly rather than quietly working around it.
